An Archetypal Perspective on the Capricorn
Once upon a time, there was a rabbit who boasted about being able to run faster than anybody else. This rabbit always made fun of the turtle for being so slow. One day, the turtle said to him, “It’s true that you run very fast, but if we race, I may beat you.” You may be familiar with the rest of the story: The turtle moves towards the finish line with slow, heavy steps. The rabbit thinks it has plenty of time and sleeps. And when it wakes up, it sees that the turtle who moved towards the goal with ambition has won the race. Capricorns are like that turtle, with their slow temperament, they are locked on the goal. Even at the moment when everyone loses hope and winning seems impossible, they calculate how to win and never give up. There is nothing that can keep them from their path. They make their last move with the same enthusiasm as the first one. Eventually, they reach their goal and finish what they started.
Although the symbol of Capricorn is known as a goat, in the old days it was depicted with the body and head of a goat and the tail of a fish. Goats, who climb steep hills fearlessly and with ease, make their own path in mountainous and rocky places, that is the typical Capricorn behavior. Following their own path seems easier to them than going with the natural flow. Capricorns, who tackle what flows by itself, like to rule over what’s natural. And they do this the hard way because it is the key to achieving their goals later on. The more they succeed, the higher they set their sights and the bigger successes achieve. Or, on the contrary, sometimes reaching the summit of the mountain doesn’t go much further than being a desire. Capricorns may get scared and cower. They may believe they cannot do it and they just cannot reach the summit they so desire. It may take them years to have confidence in themselves. Their life gains velocity after the maturing period. Then they have full confidence in life and in themselves, and they start reaching their goals. According to Aries, this may be too long. Capricorns aren’t as gutsy and go-getting as Aries. But that’s fine, their dictionary doesn’t contain the words “immediately” and “right now”!
Capricorns are born with the potential to actualize the things they want. They have patience, discipline, and diligence. They know how to construct a building. They place every brick after some calculation. In the end, the house built by them will be steadier than any other. Capricorns, who are the unparalleled at calculation, do not stumble over the same stone twice. They are wary. They calculate the possibility of their client not coming to the meeting, and plan accordingly. Which is how they become the most indispensable member of the business world. If you are planning on starting a business, I recommend you consult a Capricorn. They are almost as immersed in calculation as Virgos. They take the necessary information from you in one move, and they talk about how much money the business you’re planning to do may bring, and in how much time. They calculate the cost-profit immediately, in fact they will even calculate your risk and tell you. They provide you with precious information, but approaching life this way may cause them to be labeled as ‘calculative’, and behaving in a way that’s convenient for them may cause them to be labeled as ‘self-seeking’. Perhaps so, but these are just the things that every goat that has its eyes set on the summit must do!
